History of Science and Engineering Annotation << Back Formation of differential geometry in the St. Petersburg higher educational establishments of XIX century I.V. Ignatushina The differential geometry as a science and a subject has arisen in XVIII c. in Russia in L. Euler’s works and representatives of his school. From end XVIII c. of the appendix of the mathematical analysis to geometry will penetrate into rates of higher mathematics, first of all in military- engineering schools of Petersburg. During all XIX c. there is an expansion of a circle of questions of the differential geometry stated in a rate of the mathematical analysis of the Petersburg university and military – engineering educational institutions. To the beginning of XX century the differential geometry in the Petersburg higher educational institutions was issued in a separate subject matter.
