Dragoshansky The history of the fundamental investigations of magnetic properties of ferromagnetic materials and of the applied developments of new materials at the Institute of Metal Physics under the leadership of the Corresponding Member of the USSR Academy of Sciences Yakov Savelievich Shur is presented. Attention is paid to the variety of areas of investigations which included materials, such as electric steels, magnetostrictive alloys, technologies for development of fine-grained magnetic powder materials for permanent magnets, permanent magnets with high magnetic properties, thin magnetic films for information storage, and development of new investigation techniques and experimental equipment.
