History of Science and Engineering Annotation << Back Historical aspects of development of electric equipment and Possibilities of implementation of electric propulsion onboard Russian battle ships of «sevastopol» type During the period 1907–1912 Valivach P.E. Pre-history of construction of battle ships of the «Sevastopo» type is considered. The issue about construction of four battle ships for the Baltic Fleet was considered by the Third State Duma (period of work: 01.11.1907–09.06.1912).The list of electric equipment is given, which initially was planned for installation onboard the series of four sister ships. Specifically, with regard to the electric equipment: electric devices: four combat steam-driven dynamo machines of 2 000 А and 105V and two auxiliary steam-driven dynamos of 1 000 А and 105 V are to be installed under the armor deck, in pairs, in separate, nonadjacent compartments of the ship. Archive materials from the funds of the Russian State Archive are presented, which contain some details on consumed output of various electric power consumers onboard the said ships. Materials of meetings of the marine technical committee on discussing feasibility of installation electric propulsion onboard these ships are presented. The opinions of famous shipbuilders A.N. Krylov and I.G. Bubnov are emphasized. On April 2, 1911 a meeting of the Marine Tech-nical Committee (MTC) took place that considered the above issues. A.N. Krylov and I.G. Bubnov took part in this meeting, the latter stressed the cost effectiveness of the electric propulsion. Main innovations of electric engineering implemented onboard ships of the «Sevastopol» type under construction are described. The list of works participating in fabrication and installation of electric equipment onboard the said ships is given. The electric equipment for these ships was prepared and installed by the following plants: «Duflon and Konstantinovich», «Siemens and Schuckert», «Volta», «Global Electricity Company».
