From the middle of the XIX century until the beginning of World War I (1912), which started in Russia and worldwide industrial boom architects demanded the development of advanced construction materials and structures, the systematic study of physical, chemical and mechanical properties, and the development of recommendations for the design, construction and operation. The solution of these problems has devoted his life to the outstanding Russian engineer, scientist and teacher – Nikolai Apollonovich Beleliubskii (1845–1922), had won world fame for his work. In this paper an attempt is made to restore the individual facts of his life and the contribution to the study of the properties of cement and concrete. It is shown that the N.A. Belelyubskiy is not only a great bridge-builder, applying metal, as well as the «Father of the domestic cement, concrete and reinforced concrete», as it works on the rules and regulations formulated by the design and construction of monolithic concrete and reinforced concrete structures.
