History of Science and Engineering Annotation << Back Features of traditional horse Breeding and vsadnicheskaya of Tradition of Circassians Kozhev Z.A. Cultivation of horses in the North Caucasus has long tradition and is fixed by archaeological sources since an era of early bronze. Having passed a number of stages in the development, the culture of horse breeding and vsadnichesky tradition of Circassians (Adyghe) reached the blossoming in the period of the late Middle Ages and in New time. The breed of the horses which cultivated in Circassia on the XV–XIX centuries and has won loud popularity in the adjacent countries of Europe and the Muslim East, was created as exclusively fighting. Up to the end of the XIX century Circassians kept many features of original culture not only in cultivation, but education and fighting application of saddle horses. In the years of the Caucasian war and followed then transformations of traditional culture, the Circassian horse breeding endured the hardest crisis. Therefore prospects of preservation of purely such exclusively «military» breed what the Circassian horse was, in the middle of the XIX century were very problematic.
