Zeldovitch There will be illuminated little-known piece of scientifi c biography of E.M. Lifshitz. In the 1990s. in his archive B.G. found an academician Ya. Zeldovich Professor M.I. Kaganov, handwritten in English. Yakov Borisovich wrote his September 9, 1986, while on vacation in the Crimea, p. Gaspra. At the end of the letter, entitled «Cosmological research E.M. Lifshitz», there is a note in Russian: «Musik! This is my piece in the article about the wife of Roy. Soc. <...> The rest – about the course of theoretical physics in general, the structure of the ferromagnet. etc. write themselves or attract others. Show robe after reprints». Discovered Ya lyrics Zeldovich was intended for an article about a biographical series Lifshitz members of the Royal Society. This kind of article to be ordered on behalf of the members who are asked to write about the deceased members of this society. Ya. Zeldovich received the order and wrote his part – that is closer to him on the subject, about cosmology – then asked M.I. Kaganova write the rest. It so happened that the material Ya. Zeldovich was not included in their long article with M.I. Kaganov journal of the Royal Society. The reasons for this are unknown to us. To restore historical justice and replenishment of scientifi c and biographical heritage as E.M. Lifshitz and Ya. Zeldovich, found the material was transferred to me (B.G.) into Russian (see. Below), as well as published in the original English – the way it was written Zeldovich .. In his article, J.B. Zeldovich popular, almost without mathematics outlines the main conclusions of the theory of instabilities in the early universe - one of the most important scientifi c results E.M.
