History of Science and Engineering Annotation << Back SCIENTIFIC SCHOOLS IN THEORY OF NON-LINEAR OSCILLATIONS V.V. Kudryavtsev, V.A. Il’yin The forming of native radiophysics into independent scientifi c trend is mainly connected with the activity of scientifi c schools in the theory of non-linear oscillations. The development of scientifi c school of academicians L.I. Mandelshtam and N.D. Papalexy, the fundamental achievements of its leaders and followers who organized their own scientifi c schools (A.A. Andronov, G.S. Gorelik, S.M. Rytov) are considered. The research of creative heritage of L.I. Mandelshtam, N.D. Papalexy and their disciples allows to trace the evolution of the key ideas in the theory of non-linear oscillations, radio engineering, statistical radiophysics and radioastronomy. With relation to historian of science the detailed study of scientifi c school of L.I. Mandelshtam and N.D. Papalexy will make a panoramic view of origin and elaboration of radiophysics in our country.
