History of Science and Engineering Annotation << Back ECOLOGO-BOTANICAL RESEARCHES IN THE IMGG FEB RAS N.D. Sabirova, R.N. Sabirov A brief overview of the main directions and results of botanical researches carried out at the Institute since the first days of its creation is given. Priority direction certainly is a comprehensive study of fl ora of vascular plants and vegetation of Sakhalin and the Kurile Islands. During this period a new taxes for the fl ora of Russia and Sakhalin region were identifi ed, the ecology and distribution of some species were considerably defi ned, the annotated lists of many local fl oras of the region and biodiversity were compiled and analyzed, biodiversity on some specially protected natural territories were established. Considerable attention is also paid to the study of food, ornamental, rare and endemic species of vascular plants, anatomical structure of woody plants, liverworts and lichens, methods for the rational use of non-timber plant resources in the region were devised.
