History of Science and Engineering Annotation << Back NEW FEATURES IN THE GEOLOGY OF NW PACIFIC REGIONS V.L. Lomtev The most important results of IMG&G FEB RAS seismic researches of last decades in the Sakhalin-Kuril and adjacent regions of NW Pacifi c ocean are presented. Velocity and absorption anomalies on active faults, important for mapping, possibility of use of seismic continuous profi ling for oil&gas ocean prospecting are noted. Ramp and nappe structures of Kuril and Japanese deep-sea trenches, canyon fans, Kamchatka contour megafan and bed divergent glide of Layers 1–4, facies and signs of Pacifi de paleoland, later epicontinental Tethys in the abyssal floor, and also new features of young submarine magmatism, for example, megadikes, extrusions, protrusions, Kuril analogue of Krakatoa volcano in the Iturup island are found.
