Krutykh Speaking about the achievements in the study of the Arctic, we must nevertheless note that our knowledge of it is still very inadequate. Arctic – uncommonly complex system, and for understanding its behavior requires enormous efforts and considerable time. Often these efforts due to the immensity of the tasks and their global nature combine in major international projects. Numerous studies also being conducted on the national programs of countries involved in the study Arctic, including through naval departments and involving nuclear submarines. Science tasks related to the study of the Arctic is to obtain new knowledge regardless of the source of information. The article is an attempt to assess the contribution of nuclear submarines in the study of the Arctic. Based on historical analysis, improvement of nuclear submarines the US Navy and the UK, as well as the Navy of the USSR and the Russian Federation, discussed the possible prospects of further study of the Arctic basin.
