History of Science and Engineering Annotation << Back HISTORY AND MAIN STAGES OF FORMATION MEDIA ART I.I. Yugay The author examines the stages of the formation and development of media art, explores its ideological and informative specifi city, the infl uence of cultural and historical processes, changes in the art of the second half of the twentieth century. In the evolution of media, there are two main trends: the emergence of many specialized tools that solve certain problems of communication and unifi cation, combining the capabilities of different devices in one, simplifi cation and reduction of the cost of service and use of media. The analysis of the main stages of the development of media art showed that in the period of 1960–1980 there appeared the fi rst scattered experiments of the use of media in artistic practice, media are considered as additional tools. Turning to the media as a tool refl ecting the problems and realities of his time, in the light of new creative goals and attitudes occurs in the period 1970–1980. 1980–1990 are the period of Mature media art, at this stage there are the concepts of «media art» (media art) and «media artist» - an artist who owns different technologies, combining in his practice many means, considering this area of creativity the main.
