Fastovets Quantum information science is a modern and rapidly developing fi eld of science and technology based on the use of quantum systems for realization of fundamentally new communication and computing methods (quantum communication channels, quantum cryptography, quantum computer). This review details the scientifi c research of the Laboratory of Quantum Computers Physics of IPT RAS conducted since its inception in 1998 to the present. The history of the Laboratory and the origins of research on quantum information technologies in Russia are described. The summary of the main scientifi c directions and achievements of the laboratory is presented.
