LABOR MIGRATION OF THE PEASANTRY OF THE NALCHIK DISTRICT AT THE TURN OF THE XIX–XX CENTURIES |
T.A. Dzughanov
The article examines the key aspects related to the development of labor migration from Kabarda in the late XIX–early XX centuries. An attempt is made to determine the nature and vector of its development in the post-reform period and the evolution of market relations. It is established that the lack of land and the low marketability of traditional peasant farming were the motivations of labor in the Nalchik district. The waste was carried out mainly within the borders of the Caucasus region, less often – to the central provinces and large industrial centers of the country. One of the forms of seasonal work, the most popular in the first decade of the twentieth century, was labor migration to the countries of Latin and North America. It is noted that in the post-reform period, especially by the end of the XIX century in Kabarda, the process of migration to foreign countries is greatly enhanced. This socio-economic phenomenon should be considered as one of the manifestations of entrepreneurial activity of the population of the district, caused by the strengthening of commodity-market relations and the growth of property differentiation, forcing lowincome peasants to seek additional sources of income.
