THE STUDIES ON RESOURCE AND RARE SPECIES OF LARGE MAMMALS AND AVIFAUNA OF THE CAUCASUS WITHIN THE ACTIVITIES OF THE LABORATORY FOR MOUNTAIN NATURE MANAGEMENT OF IEMT RAS |
A.B. Pkhitikov, F.A. Tembotova, S.A. Trepet, G.S. Dzhamirzoev
The questions concerning the state assessment and population monitoring of these or those «resource» species of large ungulates are of especially acute in the Caucasus, where there is high diversity of landscapes and biota with an abundance of endemic species in relatively small territories, which are subjected to significant direct and indirect anthropogenic impact. The work presents the results of studies on vertebrate animals of the Caucasus within the activities of the Laboratory for mountain nature management of IEMT RAS, and the possibility to characterize landscape-and-biotope preference of the vertebrates in the North Caucasus on the basis of remote sensing data and with the use of different methods of mathematical analysis (discriminant analysis, neural networks, MAXENT). It is shown that allow both these methods to reveal basic factors affecting the species distribution and visualize its potential range, which is very important for planning different measures of the species rational use.
