History of Science and Engineering Annotation << Back «URAL THREE-TON»: THE HISTORY OF PRODUCTION AND MODERNIZATION OF THE ZIS-5 TRUCK (1944–1957) S.A. P’yankov The article is devoted to the history of production of a ZIS-5 truck at the Ural Automobile Plant named after I.V. Stalin, located in the city of Miass. The foundation process of the automobile production in the Urals during the Great Patriotic War was described. The modernization of the ZIS-5 car during the first post-war decade was reviewed. The article presents technical characteristics of the car, its features and differences from the cars made at the Moscow Automobile Plant named after I.V. Stalin. In conclusion, it was stated that over the years of production at the Ural Automobile Plant, the technical characteristics of the machine has changed, it has become more reliable and more powerful. Saving the production of these cars at the Ural Automobile Plant after the end of the Great Patriotic War, the country guaranteed its needs for cheap trucks.
