History of Science and Engineering Annotation << Back THE ROLE OF THE TRANSPORT IN SOCIOECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT OF THE ASIAN PART OF RUSSIA: LESSONS OF HISTORY A.I. Tymoshenko The article analyzes in the historical aspect of the role of transport communications in the socio-economic development of the Asian part of Russia. The role of transport is studied in stages: in the pre-Soviet, Soviet and post-Soviet periods. The article also emphasizes the innovative role of different modes of transport in the development of the territory of Asian Russia, population growth in the region. In the early twentieth century, this role was successfully played by the Transsib, then this was facilitated by the Baikal-Amur railway line. BAM began to build in the 1930-s, but then its construction was paused. The most successful period in the construction of BAM unfolded in the 1970-s, and by 1989 year new railway appeared in the country. The article also explores the role of transport communications in the Arctic. Of particular importance is the Northern sea route, which runs exclusively along the borders of the state and does not depend on the situation in other countries. Currently, railway lines are being designed and built in the Arctic, which will follow the route of the Great Northern way. As a result, we come to the conclusion, that the role of transport is very signifi cant in the socio-economic development of Asian Russia, as well as in the development and settlement of its territory.
