Kupershtokh The article discusses the biography and scientific activities of Academician S.S. Kutateladze (1914–1986). The main milestones of the life of S.S. Kutateladze, which allowed him to become an outstanding scientist and organizer of science in the XX century. The Leningrad period of activity is studied. The actions of the scientist on the organization and development of the Institute of Thermophysics of the Siberian Branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences / RAS, which now bears the name of its founder, are analyzed. Tasks posed by Academician S.S. Kutateladze in 1964–1986, brought the scientists of the Institute to the leaders of world science, laid the foundation for the further development of scientific potential. The main content of the scientific heritage of academician Kutateladze is revealed by the example of the development of the main directions of the institute and its scientific schools.
