Abaeva The article considers the view of Karl Friedrich Neumann on the ethnic picture of the ancient Caucasus and its approach to the systematization and classification of Caucasian tribes. The material for this study was an essay from the work of the scientist "Russia and the Circassians," entitled "Episodes from the Ancient History of the Circassians," published in 1840 in Germany. This work was only partially translated, so it has not been sufficiently studied by representatives of the Russian Caucasus. The purpose of this study is to introduce into scientific circulation a new source on the history of ethnography of the peoples of the Caucasus, as well as familiarization with the materials contained in it.
