Yamilova The chronology of the use of iron and steel by man in the construction of various construction objects, starting from the XII century to the present, is presented. It is shown how scientific and technological progress in the field of production of alloys and metal processing contributed to the expansion of the scale of application of these materials in industrial and civil engineering. Based on the analysis of the advantages of steel structures, the prospects of their development are shown, examples of the most expressive architectural objects of our time are given. The possibilities of modeling a new generation of metal structures using various BIM technologies are considered.
