SCRIABIN INSTITUTE OF BIOCHEMISTRY AND PHYSIOLOGY OF MICROORGANISMS, RUSSIAN ACADEMY OF SCIENCES (IBPM RAS) M.B. Vainshtein In 2020, the Institute of Biochemistry and Physiology of Microorganisms named. G.K. Scriabin RAS (IBPM RAS) celebrates 55 years of its existence. Currently it is a separate unit of the Federal State Budgetary Scientific Institution Federal Research Center "Pushchino Scientific Center for Biological Research RAS". In Russia, the IBPM RAS is the largest non-medical research microbiological center. The Institute includes units which have the official status of Unique Scientific Items of Russia, namely: the Experimental biotechnological plant (OTU) and the All-Russian collection of non-pathogenic microorganisms (VKM). The main subjects of the IBPM RAS investigations are related with several important scientific areas, including both basic research and biotechnological use of the results. The article presents a brief description of the work of the Institute and is a kind of preface to the contents of the journal devoted to the results of the organization's activities in recent years.
