Senchenkova The history of the creation of the first chromatography laboratory in the USSR is presented. The idea of creation of laboratory of a chromatography belongs to the outstanding scientist, Evgeny Gapon. Tatiana’s Gapon dissertation "the chromatography analysis of cations on a permutit" – was the country’s first, devoted to this method. The laboratory of a chromatography at Institute of physical chemistry of Academy of Sciences USSR (IPC) has begun work in 1950, it was headed by K.V. Chmutov, and T.B. Gapon became the first employee. In 1953 the State commission on a chromatography has been formed, and since 1964 the Scientifi c Council on Chromatography of the AS USSR. The chairman was K.V. Chmutov, and T.B. Gapon fulfi lled duties of the scientific secretary. The history of the scientific council on chromatography of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR, closely related to the history of the laboratory, and since 1974, the chromatography department of the IPC, is reflected. The contribution of the scientific council to the development of chromatography and chromatography instrumentation in the USSR was evaluated.
