History of Science and Engineering Annotation << Back STREET ART: PROBLEMS OF DOCUMENTATION, ATTRIBUTION AND MUSEUMIFICATION M.E. Vilchinskaya-Butenko The author substantiates the necessity and expediency of documenting urban art, especially illegitimate art, since it does not fall under the existing laws on the protection of works of art. It is emphasized that the main way to preserve urban art is to document it. In the article, the author reveals that the subjects of selection of art objects are photographers, authors of works, representatives of the scientific or journalistic community, curators of exhibitions, festival organizers; the objects of documentation are individual art objects selected in accordance with the personal preferences of the subjects of selection or the preferences of the General public; the means of documentation are photographs in illustrated publications of a scientific and scientific-journalistic nature, exhibition catalogues, and Internet resources. It was also determined that the documentation process is characterized by: bias of the subject of selection; the possibility of conscious or involuntary distortion of information regarding the authorship of the work, the location of the object and its size. Haphazardness, spontaneity, and lack of scientific research on the methodology and methodology for selecting, attributing, and documenting art objects make it impossible to prevent the loss of street art and its museumifi cation.
