Cheremushnikova The current tendency to rely only on medical technology creates a mistaken belief about the uselessness of other clinical skills, as well as the uselessness of learning ways of healing that go beyond the standards accepted by modern Public Health system. However, the doctor’s ability to find effective methods to cure patients in extreme circumstances, when the commonly adopted standards of treatment that require high-tech equipment and proper medication are not available, still remains in require The article offers a historical retrospective of the study and practical application of intravenous alcoholic anesthesia in Russia and abroad, its specific clinical features, advantages and disadvantages. In addition, the article represents the experience of using alcohol anesthesia by Soviet doctors during the Great Patriotic War. Despite the fact that this practice was a forced and compulsory measure and had a large number of recognizable shortcomings, nevertheless, experienced surgeons-scientists succeeded to create methods that take into account the “alcohol history of patient” and permit achieving high treatment efficiency in the situation of military operations. The reconstruction of the historical retrospective was carried out on the basis of various types of sources, which include the results presented in the scientifi c research of foreign and Russian scientists. The authors also drew on scientifi c and memoir sources that helped to analyze the practice of using intravenous anesthesia during the Great Patriotic War.
