History of Science and Engineering Annotation << Back Domestic and Foreign Historiography for the History of the Imperial Society of Devotees of Natural Science, Anthropology, and Ethnography Neupokoev I.V. This article presents a brief review of scientifi c and historical works devoted to the study of the activities of the Imperial Society of Devotees of Natural History, Anthropology and Ethnography. The context of the study of scientifi c and public organizations of the Russian Empire, which existed from the great reforms of Alexander II up to the First World War, is considered. In the historiography the emergence of IOLEAE is embedded in the general historical context and is conditioned by the transformation of the social and political state of society. The study of the subsequent scientifi c activity of the Society is connected with those or other scientifi c disciplines that were actively developed by the efforts of its members, be it museum studies, ethnography, zoology.
