History of Science and Engineering Annotation << Back Justifi cation of the Gyroscopic Effect in the form of an Analysis in the Works of O.I. Somov Balamirzoev A.G. This article provides a generalization of the problem of rotation of a solid body around a fi xed point, which is given in the works of Somov. He obtained a solution to this problem for the case after the initial impact by integrating differential equations of motion using elliptic Jacobi functions of the third kind with an imaginary parameter. Somov's solution showed that the basic parameters of motion are expressed through a composition of elliptic functions of the simplest form and, introducing them, the problem of rotation of a solid body relative to a fi xed point is reduced to the simplest elements.
