Shalimov The paper is devoted to the rebirth of genetics in the Novosibirsk scientific centre in the time of «thaw» (1957–1964). There are several stages that stand out in the formation of the scientific studies. On the basis of a wide range of documentary sources the paper considers position of central and local officials and their influence on the material infrastructure and the cadres of the Institute of Cytology and Genetics. The conclusion about the considerable role of the Siberian branch of the Academy of Science of USSR in the foundation of genetics studies is made.
