History of Science and Engineering Annotation << Back An Exercise to the Mathematical Statistics on Correlation of Heights in Families B.S. Gorobets, M.A. Baranov In the university course of the theory of probabilities and mathematical statistics, the calculation of coefficient of correlation presents as a rather long and tedious though quite necessary exercise. The routine work can be done much more attractive if students would not be obliged to resolve standard exercises from test-books, but they would be offered to collect initial data out from the environment. For example interest was created in the elucidation of the correlation between height of the students and their parents, as well as between their fathers and mothers.
