V.I. Nazarov
A brief description of the early systemic mutations study is given at the stage when its principal features were presented by way of speculative hypotheses. Geneticist V.N. Stegnii from Tomsk University was the first to discover and really observe systemic mutations in the interphase nuclei of trophocytes of malaria mosquitoes and Drosophila. To him belongs the strict description of spatial rearrangement of chromosomal apparatus provoked by systemic mutation. He also established the specific character of these rearrangement. In his opinion, systemic mutations are what determines the saltational character of speciation.
