History of Science and Engineering Annotation << Back Fundamental Physical Constants and Fundamental Metrology S.A. Kononogov Problems of fundamental physical constants (FPC) and their relations with the theory of fundamental interactions are considered. It is pointed out that these investigations are being done in Gosstandart from 1967 by a theoretical group created by the prominent Russian scientist Prof. K.P. Staniukovich. Problems of FPC accuracy, classification, number and possible variation are described and their role in planned transition to new definitions of SI units based on constants as well. Special attention is paid to the accuracy and possible variations of the gravitational constant G, due to the central role of gravitation in the solution of unification of interactions problem.
