History of Science and Engineering Annotation << Back Center for Gravitation and Fundamental Metrology, VNIIMS K.A. Bronnikov, M.I. Kalinin, S.A. Kononogov, V.N. Melnikov, V.V. Khrushchev The history of fundamental theoretical studies in physics and metrology by the group founded in the Russian Committee for Standards (Gosstandart) in 1967 by Prof. K.P. Staniukovich is described. On its base after his death the Center for Gravitation and Fundamental Metrology, VNIIMS, was created in 1995 by his colleagues. Main topics of investigations in the Center both in the fields of gravitation and cosmology as well as gravitational-relativistic metrology and fundamental physical constants (FPC) are presented. The latter became especially topical due to the planned transition to new definitions of Si units based on FPC. Key words: gravitation; cosmology; fundamental constants; SI units.
