History of Science and Engineering Annotation << Back Development of biotechnological and genetic studies in the Institute of Biology and Soil Sciences FEB RAS Yu.N. Zhuravlev V.P. Bulgakov O.G. Koren The beginning and key stages of development of such scientific disciplines as plant biotechnology and genetics in Far Eastern Branch of Russian Academy of Science are described in this article. An impact of these investigations on general development of biotechnology and plant genetics is also outlined. Several breakthroughs have revealed important new insights into the mechanism of plant oncogenes action, resulted in new technologies of secondary metabolism activation, yielded strategies of conservation of endemic plant species and constituted nano-biotechnological investigations. The development of plant biotechnology and genetics in the Institute of Biology and Soil Science was not linear and depended on the political and economical situation in our country: ups and downs in growth are described as well.
