Scherbinin The scientific biography of the founder of the Ural School of Magnetologists, the Doctor of Physical-Mathematical Sciences, professor Rudolf Ivanovich Yanus is described. His contribution to the physics of magnetic measurements, investigation of the processes of magnetization, understanding the nature of ferromagnetism, the physics and practice of magnetic methods of nondestructive testing are considered. Great attention is paid to his priority in creating the new field of physics of magnetic phenomena – magnetic flaw detection.
