History of Science and Engineering Annotation << Back MODERNIZATION OF ASIAN RUSSIA’S ECONOMY: A HISTORICAL EXPERIENCE AND PERSPECTIVES V.A. Lamin V.Y.Malov A.I. Timoshenko The article deals with the Russian government policy of economic modernization as the determining factor for further effective development of the state and increasing of its competitiveness in the world. The main emphasis is placed upon the studying of the role of Asian Russia, because the most important prerequisite for economic development of this territory in the twentieth century was the construction of Trans-Siberian Railway, which allowed to occupy the region and accelerate its industrial development. The authors analized how during the first Soviet five-year plans the implementation of the Ural-Kuznetsk project had an influence upon changing the economic structure of Asian part of the country and also that modernization of the region in the years of World War II was connected with evacuation and restoration here hundreds of different industrial companies and manufacturers. In the postwar decades the modernization changes in the economy of Siberia and the Far East were associated with the implementation of the Angara-Yenisey project, creation of West Siberian oil and gas complex in the 1960-1970-s., construction of the Baikal-Amur mainline railway and etc. It is concluded that modernization processes in more or less degree made a contribution to the economic development of the regions and entire national economy of the country. In this connection is very important that all modern theories and predictions to take into account the historical experience.
