EPM – High-Precision Planetary Ephemerides of IAA RAS for fulfillment of Scientific Research and navigation on the Earth and in Space

EPM (Ephemerides of Planets and the Moon) – numerical ephemerides originated in the 1970’s for support of Russian spacecraft. The series of the numerical ephemerides of IAA RAS has been constructed. These ephemerides have the same accuracy as the international standard – DE405/LE405 ephemerides of JPL, and just surpass it in some meanings.
The last version of EPM’s ephemerides – EPM2011 includes the updated dynamical model, the new values of parameters and the expanded database containing about 680000 position observations of different types. The dynamical model of planet part of EPM2011 includes mutual perturbations from the major planets, the Sun, the Moon, the 301 most massive asteroids, and the 21 largest trans-neptunean objects (TNO), perturbations from the other asteroids of the main belt and other TNO. The numerical integration of the equations of motion of the celestial bodies has been performed in the Parameterized Post-Newtonian N-body metric in the barycentric coordinate system for General Relativity in the TDB time scale over a 400-year interval (1800–2200). EPM2011 has been oriented to the ICRF with the accuracy better than 0.1 mas by including into the total solution the 213 ICRF-based VLBI measurements of spacecraft 1989–2010 near planets. The EPM ephemerides with corresponding differences of TT-TDB are available via FTP ftp: //quasar.ipa.nw.ru/incoming/EPM/.
The EPM ephemerides correspond to the modern required accuracy and are used for astronavigation: they are the basis for calculating data published in Astronomical Yearbook of IAA RAS, and they are necessary for space experiments in deep space and near the Earth (participating in the GLONASS and LUNA-RESOURSE programs). The EPM ephemerides are also used for various investigations: the estimation of the solar oblateness, the parameters of Mars rotations, the total mass of the main belt of the asteroids and TNO, verification of General Relativity, estimations of the possible time changing of the solar mass and the gravitational constant, limitations on the density of dark matter in the Solar System.
