History of Science and Engineering Annotation << Back Two years ago Igor Landau the noted physicist ended his lifeway (1946–2011) Gorobets B.S. The second anniversary of death of Igor L’vovich Landau urges to commemorate some important moments of his life, to look through, once more, the lifeway full of dizzy events and complex psychological challenges and deeds of the son of great Lev Landau. This essay has no traces of the former confrontation between the author of it ( Boris Gorobets) defending Evgenii Lifshits and, on the other hand, Igor Landau defending his mother Cora, the wife of Lev Landau. My own reconsiderations of the destiny of Igor were sharply changed after I got to know the testimonies of several Igor’s colleagues who told me about him as a person as well as successful physicist. The professional Igor’s image is determined from the fact, that he was working for a long period in the Institute of Physical problems, where his scientific chief was an outstanding experimental physicist Yuriy V. Sharvin< member by correspondence of Academy of Sciences of the USSR>. There Igor defended his doctotate thesis and became Doctor of Physical Science. Then Igor left the Institute for Switzerland having been invited to work in CERN. His new successes were confirmed by a lot of papers published by him in journals of highest reputation: Physical Review, Journal of Physics-condenced Matter, Journal of Low-Temperature Physics and others.
