History of Science and Engineering Annotation << Back Life way of Yevgeny Fedorovich Bahmetev (1893–1944(?)) and his Contribution to the Development of X-Ray Diffraction Analysis of Metals and Alloys in the USSR (To 120 Anniversary of the Birth) Kuz’mina N.A. The article presents previously unknown facts about the life of Yevgeny Fedorovich Bahmetev, an outstanding specialist in the field of x-ray diffraction study of metals and alloys, the founder and developer of the theory of crystallization of metal. Bahmetev stood at the origins of x-ray analysis: they have been developed methods of shooting and the most important equipment, then put in the basis of more sophisticated instruments of x-ray analysis, and which is now used by our laboratory. Е.F. Bahmetev was arrested on the article «counter-revolutionary Trotskyite activities» in 1935 and sent to Uhtpechlag to the field of radium, where he continued his scientific research in this field in the physical laboratory. After the liberation in 1939, he worked in Kostroma textile Institute as a Professor of physics, making a significant contribution in training and production activity of the Institute. Before the beginning of the great Patriotic war Е.F.Bahmetev was arrested again and sentenced to 10 years of exile in Uhtizhemlag. The further destiny of the man is unknown. The name of this scientist was erased from the history of Russian science and forgotten. The purpose of this publication to restore the good name of our compatriot.
