History of Science and Engineering Annotation << Back THE INDUSTRY OF THE JEWISH AUTONOMOUS REGION: FORMATION AND DEVELOPMENT S.V. Anosova, V.S. Gurevich The article researches formation and development of industrial production in the Jewish Autonomous Region since its establishment up to present time. It is marked, that alongside with agricultural colonization of the region, the increase in rates of economic growth was reached on the basis of development of large industrial enterprises and artels using local raw material (timber, building materials). Before the beginning of the Great Patriotic War production volume of industrial production has grown in comparison with 1934 almost in 3 times. The 1950s–1970s are characterized by rise of productive forces of the region and increase of volumes of industrial production. Industrial enterprises manufacturing a large list of production of technical and consumer purpose (cement, power transformers, self-propelled combine harvesters, sewing and knitted products, footwear) have been constructed and reconstructed. For first fifteen post-war years the volume of gross output of the industry has grown in more than four times, and in the 1970s – even more than twice. It is noted, that the period before the 1990s’ reforms became years of steady development for the regional economy. These years the Jewish Autonomous Region concerned to be a Far East region possessed diversified industrial structure and significant prospects of economic growth.  In the post-reform period three stages in development of the regional industrial complex are allocated, their characteristic is given. It is noted, that transformation of the regional industry is characterized by constant increase of a share of enterprises on distribution of electric power, gas and water with decrease of manufacturing industry. It is shown, that woodworking and light industries, earlier concerning to be branches of market specialization of the region, have lost the given status. Distinctive feature of the present stage is intensive development of the mining industry. Keywords: Jewish Autonomous Region; history of industry development; parameters of industry development.
