History of Science and Engineering Annotation << Back SCIENTIFIC-SCHOOL’S APPROACH TO THE HISTORY OF RUSSIAN PHYSICS V.P. Vizgin, A.V. Kessenikh We consider the concept of a scientifi c school and its use in historical and scientifi c research. We developed scientifi c-school’s approach to the history of Russian physics of the twentieth century, especially in the period of its intensive development in the 1950–1970-ies. We show the schematic map of the physical schools, with more than 50 of the most signifi cant school teams; this scheme includes several main lines of development of the schools foremothers to leading schools, which determined the level of achievement of Soviet physics until 1970-ies.
