SCIENTIFIC SCHOOLS IN RADIOLOCATION AND RADIOASTRONOMY |

The fundamental contribution of scientifi c schools (radiolocation groups) of D.A. Rozhansky and Yu.B. Kobzarev into forming and
development of impulse radiolocation in our country is considered in the fi rst part of the article. The prime experiments on the usage of the impulse method of radiolocation were started under the direction of D.A. Rozhansky. His follower Yu.B. Kobzarev with colleagues worked out the fi rst radar station «Redut» for the far detection of airplanes. Subsequently Yu.B. Kobzarev and his disciples created other locators, offered the principles of coherent radiolocation technics, the theory of optimal processing of radiolocation signals, laid the foundation of distant sounding. The achievements of research group of V.A. Kotel’nikov which was at the outset of planetary radiolocation are described. The second part of the article is devoted to the history of origin and development of native radioastronomy in the context of scientific schools. Owing to S.E. Khaikin the Crimean expedition was organized in the network of which the fi rst big radio telescopes in our country were projected and launched. The services of S.E. Khaikin’s scientifi c school are connected with the design of the antennas of variable profi le which were used in the construction of BPR and RATAN-600. The scientifi c school of V.S. Troitsky takes a special place in the history of native radioastronomy. He and his followers created the fi rst radiometers and radio telescopes for reception of cosmic radio emission, the theory of radio emission of the Moon and the methods of studying the properties and structure of its surface.
