THE ORIGIN OF METHODS OF TEACHING MATHEMATICS IN EUROPE |

The article reconstructs the historical picture of the origin of teaching mathematics methods in Europe. It shows that criticism of Euclid’s
«Beginnings» and searching to create educational courses of mathematics differing from the Euclid's one became the stimulus for the methods appearance. Such attempts were made by the French mathematicians P. Ramus, A. Arneau, A. Klereau and others. These authors suggested weakening of the deductive character of exposition, used clearness and intuition instead of demonstration. Considerable methodic results in the sphere of practical arithmetics teaching were obtained by the Swiss educationalist I.G. Pestalozzi, whose works became widely spread not only in Europe but also in Russia.
