History of Science and Engineering Annotation << Back THE HISTORY OF THE LABORATORY OF ECOLOGY OF GRAPEVINE N.R. Tolokov, V.V. Naumenko The paper discusses the history of development of research on ecology of grapes, which determines the quality and the name of the wine. Soil Department existed even before the offi cial establishment of the Institute of viticulture and winemaking. It employees argued the placement of vineyards by regions and ecological niches. In subsequent years solved the problems of fertilizers and irrigation of vineyards, the development of sandy and sloping land, protection of soils from erosion, zoning areas and allocating of terroirs for quality wines. The article covers the research areas of the Department and the contribution of individual employees.
