History of Science and Engineering Annotation << Back SATELLITE MONITORING OF VOLCANIC ACTIVITY IN THE KURIL ISLANDS A.V. Rybin, M.V. Chibisova, A.V. Degterev, V.B. Guryanov, S.E. Dyakov 36 active volcanoes are located in the Kuril Islands, most of which are potentially dangerous for population and aviation. A brief analysis of the current state of the problem of the volcanic activity monitoring in the Kurile Islands and data of the eruptions, occurred during the period 2009–2014 years, received by distance methods (satellite images), is given in the article. During this period the activity of the volcanoes of the Kuril Islands has increased: explosive eruptions occurred at the volcanoes Ivan Grozny and Chirinkotan, effusive eruption was at the volcano Snow, explosive-effusive eruption was at the volcano Sarychev Peak; Alaid, Sinarka, Ebeko, Kudryavy manifestate the activity.
