History of Science and Engineering Annotation << Back ADYGHE AND KARACHAYBALKAR NART EPOS: TRADITIONAL CLOTHES AND FOOTWEAR (FROM THE MOST ANCIENT TIMES TO THE MIDDLE AGES) A.V. Gucheva, F.H. Gulieva (Zanukoeva) The objective of the given work consists in reconstruction of clothes and footwear of heroes of «Nart epos» from the most ancient times to the early Middle Ages, as most important elements of material culture. At the same time they are the complex sign system, allowing to distinguish people not only by gender and age, but also allowing to reveal an ethnic, religious and social identity. It is the complex of varied elements consisting from bottom and the outer clothing, a headdress, footwear and ornaments, which are combined with each other by shape, color, material, forming uniform style ensemble, having strongly pronounced ethnic character.
