History of Science and Engineering Annotation << Back JAKOB REINEGGS AND PROBLEM OF THE CAUCASUS IN EUROPEAN ORIENTAL STUDIES OF THE XIX CENTURY А.М. Abaeva, А.М. Abaeva This article is devoted to a contribution of the German scientist and diplomat Jakob Reineggs to studying of history of the Caucasian people. As material for which has served fundamental work of the orientalist «General historical and topographical description of the Caucasus» organized by Enoch Schröder of traveler’s manuscripts. We will consider views of the representatives of an European scientific community in the XIX-th century of some controversial issues which are taken up by Reineggs. The objective of this research is inseparably linked with need of enlargement of source study base of ethnography of the Caucasus. The conclusions: Reineggs and other orientalists of the XVIII–XIX centuries not only have entered a huge contribution into the European system of knowledge, but also have exerted considerable impact on formation of public opinion about the Caucasian people.
