History of Science and Engineering Annotation << Back SEISMOLOGICAL STUDIES AT THE LABORATORY OF SEISMOLOGY OF THE INSTITUTE OF VOLCANOLOGY AND SEISMOLOGY FEB RAS A.A. Gusev The review of studies carried out at the Laboratory of seismology of IVS FB RAS is presented. The following lines are covered: similarity of earthquake sources and its violation; estimation of three corner frequencies of source spectrum; simulation of ground motion for scenario earthquakes; solving inverse problems for earthquake sources; fractal properties: for sequences of earthquakes and volcanic eruptions, for body waves emitted from earthquake source; studies of seismic hazard for Kamchatka and for entire Russia; development of techniques and algorithms for the probabilistic analysis of seismic hazard (PSHA); study of propagation of high-frequency seismic waves: development and application of the new theory of wave propagation through random medium, determination of scattering coeffi cient (turbidity) and quality factor for a set of frequency bands.
