10 YEARS OF LIDAR STUDIES OF THE ATMOSPHERE OF KAMCHATKA |

The paper presents the results of a lidar study of the atmosphere in the altitude region of 20–400 km, obtained at the lidar station of Kamchatka in 2008–2016. The development of methods for lidar measurements and signal processing is discussed. A description is given
of the method proposed by the authors for taking into account the aftereffects of photoelectric multipliers and the method of measuring the background signal, which made it possible to include the mesosphere in the altitude region investigated by the lidar method. Data on the main features of the appearance of aerosol formations in the upper stratosphere and the mesosphere of Kamchatka are given. The results of the investigation of the first discovered reverse lidar signal from the altitude region 100–400 km caused by resonant scattering by ions of atomic nitrogen and oxygen in excited states are discussed.
