History of Science and Engineering Annotation << Back Joint Institute for Nuclear Research – Birth of a City of Science Dubna B. Starchenko, V. Bednyakov, Yu. Shimanskaya The year of 2011 marks the 55th anniversary of the establishment of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research – an international intergovernmental scientific research organisation situated in Dubna, Moscow region. The article describes the events that initiated the birth of the international scientific centre which soon became world-known, touches on the history of its progress and development, widening and strengthening international ties, achievements in science, education and innovations. A strategy of the further development of the Institute is presented – it envisages upgrading of the research infrastructure to open new opportunities in science in future.
