HISTORICAL, AESTHETIC,CONCEPTUAL ASPECTSOF THE NETWORKPHENOMENONIN THE MEDIA ARTPERIOD OF 1990–2000 |

Technical forms are becoming increasingly important in contemporary art: in addition to such recognized, mature art forms as photography,
cinema, television art, there are many areas related to contemporary art based on the use of various media, for example, digital art, computer
art, Internet art, virtual art, interactive art, Net art, software art, Game art and many others.
An important structural, organizational, formative aspect of the named (and many other) art practices is the network.
In the article the development of the network concept and its approbation in the practice of artistic communities Mail Art and Fluxus is
considered.
The preconditions leads to the high relevance of networking structure in the media art of 1960–1990, as one of the movement in contemporary
art, are investigated.
It is shown that in the period of 1960–2010, networks of technicaly various types used for scientifi c and artistic purposes. The examples
of implementation the network principle with the help of various media such as: post, radio (mini-FM), satellite communication, slow-motion
television, video text, electronic mailing lists, telephone, fax, e-mail boxes were discussed.
The use of the fi rst electronic networks, which have proved their advantage over other means of communication was shown. The demand
for network in media art is determined by the fact that the network structure corresponds to the characteristics of the media artworks (open,
developing, distributed), the specifi c character of media creative (co-creation, collective creativity, creativity as a process, creativity as
research), the role of the media art’ audience (interactivity, co-creation, participation).
