History of Science and Engineering Annotation << Back MILITARY POTENTIAL OF THE URALS AS A FACTOR OF RUSSIAN MODERNIZATIONS OF THE Х Х TH CENTURY A.V. Speransky The paper shows role of the Ural region in strengthening of defence capability of the USSR (Russia). The paper highlights participation of military units and units formed in the Urals in military confl icts of local, regional and world importance. The paper shows importance of the Urals in creation of Russian military-industrial complex. The paper also describes types of small arms, artillery, tanks, nuclear ammunition and nuclear weapons delivery, produced at the Ural plants of Russian military-industrial complex. The paper presents their tactical and technical data, indicators of production, examples of their use in military confl icts of the 20th century. In addition, the paper demonstrates contribution of outstanding military commanders, inventors of weapons and organizers of military production, associated with the Urals, in creating of military might of Russian state. The paper concludes that creation of a strong army and a powerful military-industrial complex strengthened country`s security, strengthened country`s authority in international affairs, promoted ideological and political unity of the people, contributed to improvement of scientifi c and technical base of Soviet society.
