Bakhtina The methods of laser spectroscopy as one of the dynamic trends of contemporary science are discussed. Signifi cant attention is paid to the Doppler effect which shows itself in spectroscopic research. The physical foundations, examples of scientifi c and technical appliance of methods of laser cooling and trapping of ions and neutral atoms are considered. The design of these methods led to impetuous development of laser spectroscopy. The scientific achievements of high precision laser spectroscopy are told.
